China Food Additive Regulation Amendment Published

On February 28, 2017, National Health and Family Planning Commission of the PRC published “NHFPC 2017-1 Notice about new food additive Ammonium Carbonate, 9 new food flavor such as 6-Methylheptanal and enlarge usage scope of 2 food additives such as Sodium metabisulfite”. This notice acts as the fifth supplementary document for China food additive regulation GB2760-2014, published on December 24, 2014.

On December 18, 2016 National health and family planning commission of the People’s Republic of China (NHFPC) released Announcement year 2016 No. 16 (in Chinese), publishing GB2763-2016 Maximum residue limits for pesticides in food and additional 106 National food safety standards on testing method of pesticide residue in foods.

CETA: How the New Trade Deal will Affect EU GI products?

The EU - Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) is a new trade agreement that is expected to facilitate exchange of goods and services between these two countries. The EU and Canada have signed the Agreement on October 30, 2016. However, before the agreement enters into force, it needs to be approved by the EU Parliament and then ratified by each of the EU Member States.

The Chilean Ministry of Health releases the first amendment of 2017 of the Food Safety Regulation

A new Decree amending the Supreme Decree No. 977, Food Safety Regulation, was published in the National Congress Library of Chile (in Spanish) on January 18th, 2017. The Decree No. 37 modifies the definition of butter in the article 225: “Butter without any other denomination, is the dairy product that derives exclusively from the pasteurized cream of milks”. The article also mentions that products using the expression “butter of fantasy”, without referring to a dairy product, should use a specific label according to the real nature of the ingredient.
