Russia Extends Food Import Ban to 2018

Russian government decided to extend the import ban on food coming from most western countries by issuing Decree N 305 on June 29, 2016. The previous extension adopted last year through Amendment N 625 extended the measure by one year. This time, however, Russia is extending the ban on food import for 18 months, until December 31st, 2017.

China: Transitional Period Allowed to Register Foods for Special Medical Purposes

On July 1, 2016 Administrative measures for foods for special medical purposes (FSMP) registration (Original Chinese version, for English version click here) entered into force. This legal act regulates registration of formula foods for special medical purposes produced and distributed in China, or imported into China.
In order to preserve regular supply of food for special medical purposes in China, China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) has allowed a transitional period of eighteen months before mandatory FSMP recipe registration is enforced.
Currently all the domestically produced and imported FSMP in China market can still be sold until the expiration date, before January 1, 2018. After this date, all FSMP sold in China should get a certificate of FSMP registration according to the latest administrative measures act.

China Approves 3 Bacteria for Usage in Food

China: Mandatory Registration of Infant Formula Recipes

On June 6, 2016, China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) published CFDA Decree No.26 regulating registration of recipes of infant formula products. After one year of preparations, CFDA published Administrative Measures for the Registration of Recipes for Formula Powder Products for Infants and Young Children (Original Chinese version, for English version click here) on June 8, 2016 and it will enter into force on October 1, 2016. The measures were notified to the WTO as TBT 1165 in January 2016.
