China Reshuffles State Council Structure; Your Familiar Food Ministries Will Disappear

On March 17, 2018, the 13th National People’s Congress approved the institutional restructuring plan submitted by China State Council. In the plan, ministries are decreased by eight and State Council agencies are decreased by seven. Food-related ministries and bureaus will be reshuffled as follows.

China Updates GB Standards for Contaminants and Mycotoxins in Foods

On April 14, 2017 National health and family planning commission of the People’s Republic of China (NHFPC) released No. 2017-4 notice (in Chinese), publishing GB 2761-2017 National food safety standard Mycotoxins in Food and GB 2762-2017 National food safety standard Maximum Levels of Contaminants in Foods. Both standards will enter into force on September 17, 2017 and will repeal their previous version GB 2761-2011 and GB 2762-2012.

China Food Additive Regulation Amendment Published

On February 28, 2017, National Health and Family Planning Commission of the PRC published “NHFPC 2017-1 Notice about new food additive Ammonium Carbonate, 9 new food flavor such as 6-Methylheptanal and enlarge usage scope of 2 food additives such as Sodium metabisulfite”. This notice acts as the fifth supplementary document for China food additive regulation GB2760-2014, published on December 24, 2014.
