On April 3, 2019, the Canadese Federal Health Department released the “Notice of Modification to the List of Permitted Sweeteners to Enable the Use of Steviol Glycosides from Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni in Canned Fruit Products - Reference Number: NOM/ADM-0131.“

Previously, the use of Steviol glycosides was already permitted in Canada as sweeteners in various unstandardized foods. By completing the recent safety assessment, Health Canada enabled its use in canned fruit products and modified the List of Permitted Sweeteners.

Changes have immediate effect.
