EU: Pesticide Limits in Human Food

Acequinocyl, amitraz, coumaphos, diflufenican, flumequine, metribuzin, permethrin, pyraclostrobin and streptomycin residues

The European Union published the Commission Regulation (EU) 2017/623 of 30 March 2017 amending Annexes II and III to Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards maximum residue levels for acequinocyl, amitraz, coumaphos, diflufenican, flumequine, metribuzin, permethrin, pyraclostrobin and streptomycin in or on certain products.

For diflufenican and pyraclostrobin, MRLs were set in Annex II; while for amitraz and permethrin, MRLs were set in Annex II and Part B of Annex III.

For acequinocyl and metribuzin, MRLs were set in Part A of Annex III.

In conclusion, for coumaphos, flumequine and streptomycin, no specific MRLs were set nor were those substances included in Annex IV to that Regulation, so the default value of 0. 01 mg/kg laid down in Article 18(1)(b) thereof applies.

This amendment should enter into force on April 26, 2017.

Bifenazate, daminozide and tolylfluanid residues

The European Union published the Commission Regulation (EU) 2017/624 of 30 March 2017 amending Annexes II and V to Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards maximum residue levels for bifenazate, daminozide and tolylfluanid in or on certain products.

For bifenazate maximum residue levels (MRLs) were set in Annex II to Regulation (EC) No 396/2005, while for daminozide and tolylfluanid MRLs were set in Annex V.

This amendment should enter into force on April 26, 2017

Acetamiprid, cyantraniliprole, cypermethrin, cyprodinil, difenoconazole, ethephon, fluopyram, flutriafol, fluxapyroxad, imazapic, imazapyr, lambda-cyhalothrin, mesotrione, profenofos, propiconazole, pyrimethanil, spirotetramat, tebuconazole, triazophos and trifloxystrobin residues

The European Union published the Commission Regulation (EU) 2017/626 of 31 March 2017 amending Annexes II and III to Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards maximum residue levels for acequinocyl, amitraz, coumaphos, diflufenican, flumequine, metribuzin, permethrin, pyraclostrobin and streptomycin in or on certain products.

For acetamiprid, cyantraniliprole, cyprodinil, ethephon, flutriafol, mesotrione, propiconazole, pyrimethanil, tebuconazole and trifloxystrobin new maximum residue levels (MRLs) were set in Annexes II and III.

For difenoconazole, fluopyram, fluxapyroxad, imazapic, imazapyr and spirotetramat, maximum residue levels (MRLs) were set in Annex III.

This amendment entered into force on April 27, 2017.

Fenpyroximate, triadimenol and triadimefon residues

The European Union published the Commission Regulation (EU) 2017/627 of 3 April  2017 amending Annexes II, III and V to Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards maximum residue levels for fenpyroximate, triadimenol and triadimefon in or on certain products.

For fenpyroximate maximum residue levels (MRLs) were set in Part A of Annex III and, also, the European Food Safety Authority, proposed changing the residue definition.

For triadimenol maximum residue levels (MRLs) were  set in Annex II and, also in this case, the European Food Safety Authority, proposed changing the residue definition.

For triadimefon new maximum residue levels (MRLs) were set in Annex V.

This amendment should enter into force on October 27, 2017.

Clothianidin and thiamethoxam residues

The European Union published the Commission Regulation (EU) 2017/671 of 7 April  2017 amending Annexes II to Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards maximum residue levels for clothianidin and thiamethoxam or on certain products.

As the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) adopted Codex maximum residue limits (CXLs) for clothianidin and thiamethoxam , new maximum residue levels (MRLs) have been set for that substance in Regulation (EC) No 396/2005.

This amendment should enter into force on April 28, 2017.

Bitertanol, chlormequat and tebufenpyrad residues

The European Union published the Commission Regulation (EU) 2017/693 of 7 April  2017 amending Annexes II, II and V to Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards maximum residue levels for  bitertanol, chlormequat and tebufenpyrad or on certain products.

For bitertanol and chlormequat maximum residue levels (MRLs) were set in Annex II and Part B of Annex III. For chlormequat, the Authority proposed to change the residue definition to the sum of chlormequat and its salts expressed as chlormequat chloride.

For tebufenpyrad new maximum residue levels (MRLs) were set in Annex II.

This amendment should enter into force on November 3, 2017.
