Scotland's Minimum Pricing for Alcohol Goes Into Effect in May 2018

The recent order on alcohol pricing has finally put an end to a five-year-long discussion on the minimum pricing for alcoholic beverages. Even though the Alcohol (Minimum Pricing) Act was approved already in 2012, it was challenged by the Scotch Whisky Association for breaching EU law. The UK Supreme Court cleared the challenge in November last year, paving the way to application of the Act from May 1, 2018.

European Union: Nutritional Labeling For Alcoholic Beverages

On March 12, 2018,  the alcoholic beverage industry submitted a self-regulatory proposal to the Commission and presented it to Commissioner Andriukaitis.

One year ago, the  European Commission adopted a report to the European Parliament and the Council regarding the mandatory labeling of the list of ingredients and the nutrition declaration of alcoholic beverages. This report is based on data collected by the Commission through Member States and stakeholders consultations.
