On June 30, 2017 Peruvian Official Gazette “El Peruano” published Supreme Decree N° 007-2017-MINAGRI “Approving the regulation of milk and dairy products”, which will enter into force 6 months after the publication date.
The main objective of the regulation is to have a standard, which until now did not exist, that clarifies and establishes all definitions of foods of dairy origin. The document has two objectives: to guarantee the quality of the products and to highlight the nutritional value of the products.
This regulation, consisting of 65 articles and an annex of definitions, establishes the minimum requirements that each dairy product and milk must contain, both for domestic and imported production, from packaging, transport to commercialization.
The Resolution define Milk as “the normal mammary secretion of dairy animals, obtained by one or more milking, without any addition or extraction, intended for consumption in the form of liquid milk or further processing” and Dairy product as “a product obtained through any milk processing, which may contain food additives and other ingredients functionally necessary for the elaboration”.
The Identity technical specifications and sanitary measures are stated for the following products:
- Raw milk
- Pasteurized milk
- UHT milk
- Evaporated milk
- Milk powder
- Fresh cheese

- Preventive measures, infringements and sanctions
The National Service of Agrarian Health (SENASA) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, the General Direction of Environmental Health and Food Safety (DIGESA) of the Ministry of Health and the National Health Institute will be the Authorities responsible for the enforcement of this Supreme Decree.
