On June 15, 2017, Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) published the second amendment document “Food (Amendment No.2) Regulations 2017”, which amends two clauses of infant formula labelling and has become effective immediately.

  • Prepacked Infant Formula must not contain an ingredient or a food additive or a proportion of an ingredient or food additive that is not in compliance with the Regulations for infant formula.
  • Prepacked Infant Formula labels should contain a specific/generic name or description of every ingredient that is contained within the formula. It should also contain information on the particulars regarding the ingredients which are in compliance with article (Regulation) 5(4)(b).
  • More information should be printed on the label, indicating that infants aged 6+ months are now being recommended to start receiving supplemental foods in addition to infant formula, provided that the formula is suitable for infants above 6 months.

All traders are to follow new regulations for labelling of infant formulas that are imported, manufactured and sold in Singapore.
