On March 17, 2018, the 13th National People’s Congress approved the institutional restructuring plan submitted by China State Council. In the plan, ministries are decreased by eight and State Council agencies are decreased by seven. Food-related ministries and bureaus will be reshuffled as follows.

On April 14, 2017 National health and family planning commission of the People’s Republic of China (NHFPC) released No. 2017-4 notice (in Chinese), publishing GB 2761-2017 National food safety standard Mycotoxins in Food and GB 2762-2017 National food safety standard Maximum Levels of Contaminants in Foods. Both standards will enter into force on September 17, 2017 and will repeal their previous version GB 2761-2011 and GB 2762-2012.

Chinese authorities have recently identified that a significant number of infant formula powder labels are in violation of food safety laws and regulations. This finding has been identified during routine food safety inspections done by local food and drug regulatory authorities. Key incompliances identified include product name, label content, ingredient content and function claims.
